"Too many omens. Three cats poisoned, two only whiskers from StarClan, Leopardfoot nearly dead, her three kits hanging on to life like rabbits in a fox den. Why such a difficult birth for a Clan leader's mate? The kits might not make it through another night. The tom is too weak to mew, let alone feed. I should help them, and yet how can I when the signs are clear?"
— Goosefeather sharing his omens with Bluefur in Bluestar's Prophecy, page 268

Goosefeather is a speckled gray tom with pale blue eyes.[2]

Goosefeather was a ThunderClan elder that served under Doestar's, Pinestar's, and Sunstar's leaderships in the forest territories as a medicine cat. He was born as Goosekit to Daisytoe and Rooktail alongside his sister, Moonkit. Even as a kit, he had an extraordinary gift of being able to predict the future and communicate with StarClan, and due to this, Goosepaw was apprenticed early to Cloudberry, the ThunderClan medicine cat. After four moons of training, he earned his full name of Goosefeather and became a mentor to Featherwhisker. Goosefeather's seemingly outrageous predictions caused his Clanmates to question his sanity, as many of them blamed him for Moonflower's death due to an omen. He also watched his Clanmates fulfill their destinies while he was unable to change the future, such as knowing Pinestar would abandon his Clan to become a kittypet. Goosefeather retired to the elders' den and ascended to StarClan after his death, giving Bluestar one of her nine lives.

In Bluestar's Prophecy, his sister Moonflower has two kits, Bluekit and Snowkit, whom he befriends. When Goosefeather spots flattened fur on a vole, he interprets it as ThunderClan being destroyed by WindClan. He convinces the Clan to raid WindClan, resulting in defeat and Moonflower's death. This failure and his continued ramblings cause his Clanmates to lose faith in their medicine cat. When Goosefeather informs Bluepaw of a prophecy, Snowpaw insists him to be crazy. During Leopardfoot's kitting, Goosefeather ignores her and declares Tigerkit should have never survived. He reminds Bluefur of her prophecy continuously and urges her to give up her kits to their father to prevent Thistleclaw from becoming leader. He later appears in StarClan after his death and gives Bluestar a life for patience.

«Every sunrise from now on, Goosefeather would wake wondering if this was the day his leader would abandon his Clan. He couldn't tell any cat, not even Pinestar, because that was not his duty. He could only wait, and watch. He was, as always, cursed to keep his knowledge a secret. He had seen the future. And there was nothing he could do to change it.»
—Goosefeather's thoughts after Pinestar's leader ceremony Goosefeather's Curse, chapter 10
In Goosefeather's Curse, Cloudberry requests that Goosekit be apprenticed early as a medicine cat due to his special powers, and though Goosekit is distraught to give up the path of a warrior, he obliges and is apprenticed two moons early. Cloudberry warns Goosepaw to keep his visions a secret, and though frustrated, he agrees to. Goosepaw is further mentored by a StarClan cat, Pearnose, and he later receives his full name, Goosefeather. Mapleshade, a Dark Forest cat, briefly convinces Goosefeather to train under her, but he cuts ties with her after learning of her treachery. Goosefeather later has a vision of the Clan starving and alerts Pineheart and Doestar; however, their attempts to store prey fail, and the Clan suffers a Great Hunger. Doestar dies, and Goosefeather takes Pineheart to the Moonstone for his leadership ceremony, where he witnesses a vision of Pinestar leaving the Clan to become a kittypet.
