| — One Eye mocking Clear Sky in The Blazing Star, pages 93-94 |
One Eye is a scrawny,[9] pale[10] mottled ginger[11] tom with jagged claws,[9] mangy, knotted fur,[4] and one yellow eye.[7]
One Eye was a rogue in the forest who was greedy and hungry for power. He falsely befriended Tom, a former kittypet, and the two convinced Clear Sky to let them join his group. However, he was revealed to be controlling and killed Tom when he defended his daughter, Sparrow Fur, from him during a "training session". One Eye then chased Clear Sky out of his own camp and planned to take over the other groups. When he learned his daughter, Star Flower, was beginning to get close to Thunder, he told her to betray the forest cats by telling him of their plan to defeat him. In the end, the groups banded together to defeat One Eye and sent the rest of his rogues scattering. He descended to the Dark Forest after his death.

The Blazing Star
- "I told you to leave, Clear Sky. I'm not going to kill you. I know that you'll suffer far more knowing that I took the leadership out of your paws because you couldn't hold onto it. So leave, before I have to put my claw marks on you."
- ―One Eye before kicking Clear Sky out of his group The Blazing Star, pages 143-144
- When One Eye patrols along the borders with Clear Sky, Acorn Fur, and Tom, they spot Mouse Ear. Mouse Ear is shocked to see One Eye, and he warns that Clear Sky will regret allowing the rogue into his ranks. Back at camp, Gray Wing announces Clear Sky's newest additions. Holly and Mud Paws confirm Mouse Ear's warning, calling One Eye a manipulative bully. Later, when Thunder, Tall Shadow, Mud Paws, Gray Wing, and Pebble Heart go to find the Blazing Star, One Eye attacks them, thinking the cats are trying to steal his catch. Pebble Heart screeches at them to stop, noticing the bird is sick, but Thunder has to pin One Eye down to end the fight. Clear Sky and Petal soon arrive at the scene, and One Eye denies that anything has happened, though he appears frightened as he looks at the bird, and he refuses to meet his leader's gaze. Thunder tells his father that One Eye attacked them over the bird, prompting Clear Sky to ask if One Eye has seen sickness like this before, which One Eye claims is just regular sickness that happens in the wild. Clear Sky is dissatisfied with the answer but does not press him and tells the rogue to go back to camp with Petal and her kits. One Eye protests, and the two glare at each other before One Eye finally backs down. He says there is not much Clear Sky can do to stop him from following but goes back to the camp as he is told. Mouse Ear asks Clear Sky if he realizes that it had been a mistake to let One Eye join, but Clear Sky points out that One Eye has taught them valuable techniques.
- A training session is held at Clear Sky's camp. Clear Sky notes how, although One Eye is harsh and will take time to adjust to living in a group, he is an excellent fighter. Tom brings up the idea of hidden weapons, which One Eye enthusiastically agrees with while telling the others to pair up and practice more. Sparrow Fur appears, looking for Tom, and One Eye attacks her due to not knowing her. He states that if she wants to see her father, she should join their group. One Eye challenges Sparrow Fur to a fight; if she beats him, he will allow her to see Tom. Clear Sky attempts to stop them, but One Eye says that she has to learn how the wild works. The fight begins, and although Sparrow Fur starts quite well, One Eye easily overpowers her. With horror, Clear Sky realizes One Eye will kill Sparrow Fur but is unable to move. Tom returns and interrupts, engaging in a fight with One Eye while the forest cats fret over Sparrow Fur. One Eye ends up killing Tom, and Clear Sky confronts him, pointing out that the group has rules, which One Eye claims only lead to heartache and sickness. One Eye tells him that some of the cats in his group are as good as dead and refuses to elaborate. The two fight, with Clear Sky ultimately winning, and he banishes One Eye, telling him to get out and never come back, or he will kill him. One Eye disappears into the forest but then attacks Clear Sky from behind. Clear Sky tries to throw him off, and One Eye sneers at him, saying that if he were that easy to defeat, he would never have survived kithood. One Eye tells Clear Sky to keep his face wound to remember him by before truly leaving, slinking away into the forest.
- When Clear Sky arrives at his brother's camp, he explains what One Eye did to Tom and Sparrow Fur and that he had thought the tom would help his group. Clear Sky states that he wants Sparrow Fur to stay here because he cannot protect her from One Eye. Later, after a brief conversation between Gray Wing and Clear Sky, Gray Wing reflects on how he does not trust Clear Sky's questionable judgment when it comes to One Eye. The next day, Clear Sky admits he has been too distracted by One Eye to deal with the sickness. The separate groups have a meeting at the four trees, and Thunder is relieved that there is no sign of One Eye. During that meeting, Clear Sky mentions that One Eye had seemed genuinely afraid of the sickness but had refused to give specifics. Thunder says talking about the rogue just distracts them from the real issue, but Clear Sky insists everyone keep an eye out for the dangerous tom. When Alder falls ill, One Eye sneers that he told Clear Sky so. It is then revealed that One Eye trapped Sparrow Fur, and when Clear Sky confronts him, One Eye claims that this is his territory now. No cat steps up to stand by Clear Sky, even when he realizes that One Eye had branded them all and that they obey him only out of fear, so he is forced to escape from his own camp. He retreats into Tall Shadow's camp, where he explains what had happened and begs for help so they can fix this and stop One Eye. When Thunder talks about the Blazing Star, a herb across the Thunderpath that can get rid of the sickness, Clear Sky points out they will have to cross One Eye's forest. Gray Wing thinks they need to wait, as One Eye knows Clear Sky had left the forest and will expect retaliation.
- The selected cats get ready to go get the Blazing Star, but Thunder wonders if One Eye is lying in wait. They successfully retrieve the herb, but One Eye waits for them on the way back, and he makes Lightning Tail drop most of the Blazing Star. One Eye says he cannot let them take it and calls on his allies to attack, forcing the patrol to retreat quickly. They report to Gray Wing, who seems satisfied; he had anticipated an attack from One Eye and his rogues. He explains his plan to trap One Eye and attack him when he is vulnerable, but Thunder thinks that they should just let One Eye have the forest, which the others disagree with. Thunder reluctantly changes his mind on the condition of keeping One Eye alive. Gray Wing adds that they will need to recruit more cats to help, and Clear Sky volunteers to challenge One Eye so that the rest of the cats can surround him. Thunder then goes to try and recruit Wind Runner and River Ripple; only River Ripple agrees. Later, Thunder asks if Star Flower knows about One Eye, and he explains the plan to her.
- On the day of the plan, Clear Sky gets One Eye to meet him in a clearing at sunhigh. One Eye attacks from the tunnels, catching Clear Sky off-guard. The rest of the cats watch from afar; Thunder wants to help, but he remembers Clear Sky had insisted that fighting for a few moments will lead One Eye to become overconfident. Just as One Eye is ready to slice down on Clear Sky's belly, the hiding cats leap out, causing One Eye's own rogues to enter the scene. He then asks for his dear daughter to come out, revealing Star Flower as his kin, as well as a traitor. During the battle, Clear Sky is trapped, forced to endure One Eye's rogues repeatedly kicking and hurting him. Gray Wing comes up with a plan to climb a tree and blind One Eye using the sun. Sparrow Fur acts as bait, taunting One Eye from one of the higher branches, making it easy for the other cats to jump him from above. Most of One Eye's rogues flee when they see their leader under attack. Gray Wing is shocked by how hard it is to defeat One Eye. Cloud Spots, Lightning Tail, and Gray Wing finally hold the rogue down, but Thunder stops Gray Wing from delivering the final blow. Thunder gets into a one-on-one fight with One Eye, which ends in Thunder snapping his neck. Thunder declares him dead and tells Star Flower to get away, as she does not deserve to grieve. She explains that after she met Thunder, One Eye had made her extract information from Thunder, leading her father to know when to attack at the Thunderpath. Star Flower begs to bury One Eye's body, which Thunder allows because they are different from him, and Clear Sky adds that One Eye had truly believed every cat was out for themselves. They dig a grave, and as Star Flower buries him, she calls him a true ray of light. River Ripple steps forward and says he was a survivor and a cat like no other who will be missed by his loved ones.
- On the way back to their camp, they run into Acorn Fur, who then leads them to Petal, Birch, and Alder. Acorn Fur explains that One Eye had forced them to move and claimed they should be left to die because they were useless. Quick Water and Acorn Fur try to help them, but Petal does not survive. Snake later points out that they are all scarred with One Eye's mark forever now, blaming Clear Sky, who blames himself as well. He admits he had shown poor judgment by letting One Eye join, but he says he risked his life to make up for that mistake. Snake refuses to forgive him and leaves the group. When Spirit-cats come to the leaders, Thunder points out they had all united to face One Eye and later says they would have all died if they had failed to defeat the rogue.
A Forest Divided
- "These rogues were like poisonous weeds. One Eye had been killed, but Slash had grown in his place."
- ―Gray Wing's thoughts A Forest Divided, page 64
- She asks to join Clear Sky's group, but Clear Sky says her father hurt many cats, and his group will not like it. He repeats this again when Star Flower insists. She fearfully insists that she does not have anyone to help her hunt now that One Eye is dead so she might not last leaf-bare. Thunder wonders if since One Eye is not around, she could be trusted. He tells Clear Sky to give her a chance, but Clear Sky reminds him that she is One Eye's daughter. Clear Sky does eventually let her join though. Gray Wing later finds Fern who Slash sent to spy on the cats, and mentions that Slash is no better than One Eye. Fern backs away and Gray Wing wonders if she thinks all toms are like Slash and One Eye. Gray Wing shivers and thinks Slash sounds too much like One Eye. Gray Wing also thinks to himself later that rogues like Slash and One Eye take pleasure in making others suffer. Clear Sky later reminds his cats that One Eye is dead, so Star Flower has no cat to follow. Star Flower mentions to Clear Sky that her mother and littermates died, and One Eye refused to talk about them so it was just her and One Eye. She also mentions she never betrayed her father when he was alive.
- Thunder remembers how Star Flower betrayed him to One Eye, and only told him she cared for him after One Eye died. He tells Clear Sky that the leader trusted One Eye and that got him into trouble. Star Flower admits to Thunder she thought he stopped caring about her when he found out about One Eye. Thunder snaps, saying she likes Clear Sky just because she thinks he is like One Eye. Star Flower later mentions that One Eye taught her how to catch snakes, and would find snakes to eat when there was no other prey. Thunder repeats what he said to Star Flower, saying that he himself is not enough like One Eye for her. Clear Sky wonders if he thinks he is like One Eye. Gray Wing soon mentions that Slash is just as cruel as One Eye. Star Flower later follows Clear Sky to a different camp, shocking the cats. Thunder remembers the last time they saw her, she just betrayed them to One Eye. When Quiet Rain, Clear Sky's mother, comes from the mountains, Star Flower expresses her regret that she did not have the chance to talk to One Eye before he died. It is mentioned again that she is the daughter of One Eye.
- Just when everything is peaceful again, Slash catches and threatens Star Flower, revealing to Clear Sky he is an old friend of One Eye. Star Flower snaps she never knew what One Eye saw in him. Slash sarcastically asks her why her father promised her as his mate then. Star Flower says that was long ago. They take the queen away, and Quick Water, who watched it all, goes to Clear Sky. She reminds him that Star Flower betrayed them to her father and thinks she is doing the same thing with Slash. She also tells Clear Sky the other leaders will not help Star Flower, because she was loyal to One Eye.
Path of Stars
- "Cats like Slash and One Eye aren't happy until they have everything!"
- ―Thorn about Slash and One Eye Path of Stars, page 8
- After Snake joins Slash, Clear Sky admits that the tom's loyalties were always with One Eye. After Sparrow Fur saves Clear Sky again, he remembers how she fought for him when One Eye tried to drive him out. Star Flower helps the Early Settler's with fighting off Slash's group, explaining she was One Eye's daughter and knows their tricks. Clear Sky later remembers how he once trusted One Eye, even though he was Star Flower father. As Clear Sky tries to explain how cats have changed, he explains how Star Flower changed even though she is One Eye's daughter. He says he has taken rogues in once, and Leaf points out that was One Eye. Clear Sky is annoyed at their grudge, thinking they could not have predicted how cruel and greedy One Eye became. After taking in a rogue called Red and discovering his past, Clear Sky stresses he will become just like One Eye.
