"We can never truly know what is in another cat's heart."
— Sneezecloud to Havenpelt about their son, Splashtail in Star, chapter 13

Sneezecloud is a gray-and-white tom[6] with broad shoulders, a long tail, and thick, glossy fur.[7]

Sneezecloud is a RiverClan warrior who has served under Mistystar's, Splashtail's, and Icestar's leaderships in the lake territories. He was born to Graymist as Sneezekit alongside his brother, Mallowkit, during Leopardstar's leadership. As an apprentice, Sneezepaw was mentored by Otterheart and earned his warrior name, Sneezecloud, after enduring the Long Dry. He became mates with Havenpelt, with whom he fathered Fogkit and Splashkit. Later, Sneezecloud and Havenpelt had another litter of kits: Floatkit, Rapidkit, and Troutkit. Sneezecloud was forced to follow Splashtail to guarentee the safety of his newest litter, and he kidnapped two SkyClan kits: Ridgekit and Duskkit. After Icestar takes over as the StarClan-blessed leader of RiverClan, Sneezecloud is forgiven for his past transgressions and is allowed to stay in his Clan.

History

In the Power of Three arc

Dark River

Sneezekit: "Graymist! Graymist!"
Swallowtail: "Sneezekit! What are you doing away from your mother?"
—Swallowtail finding Sneezekit Dark River, page 134
Sneezekit and Mallowkit are the young kits of Graymist, a RiverClan queen. When RiverClan shelters on the the island due to Twoleg kits trespassing in their camp, Sneezekit becomes separated from his mother on the night of the Gathering. Swallowtail notices Sneezekit and snatches him up. During Hollypaw's stay on the island, she sees Sneezekit, Mallowkit, and Graymist heading to the shore to drink.

Long Shadows

He is now an apprentice, Sneezepaw. His mentor is Otterheart.

In the Omen of the Stars arc

The Fourth Apprentice

«They all looked thin and exhausted, but their eyes glittered with hostility and their fur was bristling as if they would leap into battle for a couple of mousetails.»
—Narrator about Sneezepaw, Reedwhisker, and Otterheart The Fourth Apprentice, page 19
Sneezepaw remains an apprentice while his brother has become a warrior named Mallownose. During the Long Dry, Sneezepaw patrols the lake with Reedwhisker, Graymist, and Otterheart. They confront Cloudtail's ThunderClan patrol, who are fetching water from the lake. Although initially distrusting, Reedwhisker allows them to take water from the lake.

In the A Vision of Shadows arc

The Apprentice's Quest

He is now a warrior named Sneezecloud.

Darkest Night

"How dare a WindClan cat judge RiverClan after what Onestar did! Cats died when he closed WindClan's borders. He deprived them of herbs that could save them, all because he couldn't face the fact that he'd fathered Darktail."
―Sneezecloud arguing with Kestrelflight Darkest Night, page 121
Sneezecloud patrols RiverClan's closed border with Duskfur and Shimmerpelt. They confront Jayfeather, Alderheart, Puddleshine, and Kestrelflight when the medicine cats ask to share a prophecy with RiverClan's leader and medicine cats. When Shimmerpelt rejects them, Jayfeather asks if RiverClan is closed to StarClan too, and Sneezecloud retorts that he does not see any StarClan cats behind them. After bickering, Sneezecloud shows his teeth and answers that if it is important, StarClan will let RiverClan know. Kestrelflight suggests that StarClan only want to share with those who behave like a real Clan, and Sneezecloud angrily demands how he dare judge RiverClan after Onestar's treatment of Darktail.

In The Broken Code arc

Lost Stars

He and Havenpelt have become mates and she has given birth to their kits, Splashkit and Fogkit.

The Silent Thaw

"Bramblestar has only been trying to make sure the Clans follow StarClan's message about the codebreakers. It's going to be hard convincing every cat that he's an impostor when StarClan's on his side."
―Sneezecloud about Bramblestar The Silent Thaw, page 239
His kits are now apprentices, Splashpaw and Fogpaw. He and Dappletuft appear at a secret meeting of cats concerned about Bramblestar's behavior. Sneezecloud is critical of Bramblestar's punishment of codebreakers and agrees to overthrow Bramblestar, but questions if they will gain enough support. He attends the next Gathering and when the impostor insists on punishing codebreakers, Sneezecloud and others who attended the secret meeting shrink in fear.

In the A Starless Clan arc

River

"Of course not, Cloverfoot. We have no reason to think he's here. But he went out on a hunt and Mistystar wanted him back in camp. There's nothing to worry about."
―Sneezecloud to Cloverfoot when Reedwhisker disappears River (book), page 103
His kits are now warriors, Splashtail and Fognose. When Mistystar collapses, Mothwing orders Sneezecloud to fetch water, but by the time he returns, Mistystar is already dead. With Reedwhisker missing, Sneezecloud and Brackenpelt arrive in ShadowClan's camp to ask if they have seen him, though Sneezecloud brushes off Cloverfoot's concerns. When Sunbeam brings Hopwhisker to RiverClan to treat her wound, Sunbeam asks Frostpaw if Sneezecloud had found Reedwhisker.

Sky

Sneezecloud is in camp when Sunbeam, Hopwhisker, Snaketooth, and Scorchfur arrive asking for catmint. While reflecting about who should be leader, Frostpaw briefly considers Sneezecloud, but believes he is not beyond the obvious choices. Sneezecloud hunts with Owlnose, Splashtail, Brackenpelt, Podlight, and Mallownose when the riverbank collapses, harming Podlight and Brackenpelt. Owlnose decides to send a patrol to check the riverbanks, but Sneezecloud and Splashtail disagree on the patrol size. When Owlnose picks Splashtail to be deputy, Sneezecloud echoes his son's name in disbelief.

Shadow

Mothwing tells Frostpaw that Havenpelt is expecting another litter with Sneezecloud.

Thunder

Ivypool mentions that, according to Splashtail, he only attended the truce meetings because his parents are expecting another litter.

Wind

Sneezecloud: "What's all this training for, Splashtail? No Clan is threatening us."
Splashtail: "Do you want ShadowClan to come back Do you want us to be invaded and humiliated again? Remember, you'll have new kits to protect soon."
Sneezecloud: "No, Splashtail."
Splashtail: "Then get on with it. Am I leading a Clan of mice? Tigerstar and ShadowClan invaded us for no reason. But one day, we'll have our revenge!"
—Sneezecloud to Splashtail Wind, chapter 4
When Frostpaw announces at the Gathering that she spoke with StarClan, Sneezecloud questions this, since Frostpaw is no longer a medicine cat apprentice. Later, Sneezecloud questions his son Splashtail on why they are training for battle, and Splashtail argues that his father will soon have new kits to protect. Later, his mate, Havenpelt, gives birth to Rapidkit, Floatkit, and Troutkit. Sneezecloud and Gorseclaw escort Wasp back to ThunderClan after he is caught trespassing.

Star

Sneezecloud: "It's going to be okay. Floatkit's tough. Harestar will find her and bring her home."
Havenpelt: "How could Splashtail do this? He's our kit!"
Sneezecloud: "We can never truly know what is in another cat's heart."
—Sneezecloud and Havenpelt after Splashtail escapes with Floatkit Star, chapter 13
While helping Mothwing and Duskfur escape to ThunderClan, Nightheart spots Sneezecloud and Fognose stealing Ridgekit and Duskkit from SkyClan's nursery. Sneezecloud is unconvinced that they should be stealing kits, though his daughter insists they will prevent SkyClan from retaliating. When Nightheart offers himself as a hostage over the kits, Sneezecloud relents. Nightheart attempts to escape, but he is caught by Sneezecloud and Fognose. Sneezecloud, Brackenpelt, Gorseclaw, and Breezeheart nearly kill Nightheart when a battle breaks out against the Clans. Splashtail's threats to kill Troutkit prompt Sneezecloud and the other RiverClan warriors to attack the Clans. After Splashtail escapes the camp with Floatkit, Sneezecloud reassures his mate that Harestar will bring her back.
When RiverClan debates its future, Sneezecloud and Havenpelt agree that RiverClan is their home. Later, Nightheart, Bayshine, Sunnypelt, Beepaw, Oatclaw, and Appleshine arrive in RiverClan's camp to help rebuild. Sneezecloud greets them, though he and Nightheart feel uneasy as they both recall their previous encounter, and Sneezecloud apologizes for what happened. Nightheart accepts his apology, much to Sneezecloud's relief. He instructs the other Clan cats their rebuilding process. When they pause to eat, Sneezecloud argues they are still warriors despite not having a proper leader and hypothesizes that perhaps they might not need one.
