"Hi! I'm Hop Scratch. What are your names? Where did you come from? How did you find us? Why is your fur that funny color?"

A wildcat she-kit leaves her mother and approaches Ivypool and Icewing, introducing herself as Hop Scratch and bombarding them with questions. After Ivypool introduces herself and Icewing, Hop Scratch asks them to play, but to her disappointment, Icewing explains that she and Ivypool are focused on their mission. Hop Scratch tells them that she is alone since her littermate died, and Icewing offers to tell her about the Clans, to Hop Scratch's delight. However, Hop Scratch's mother, Claw Stretch, walks up to them and greets them, and Hop Scratch informs her that the Clan cats are telling her tales about themselves. Soon, after Icewing and Ivypool tell stories to the wildcats, Hop Scratch plays with a twig while her mother speaks with Ivypool.
When the foxes attack the wildcats' camp, Hop Scratch is confronted by a fox and attempts to defend herself. Ivypool rushes to protect her and attacks the fox with the help of a wildcat, and the two drive it off. Claw Stretch expresses her gratitude to Ivypool, before scolding her daughter for disobeying her order to hide in a tree. Hop Scratch apologizes and thanks Ivypool, and she follows as Claw Stretch takes Ivypool and Icewing to have their wounds treated. As Prowl Sleek begins to acknowledge the Clan cats' help against the foxes, Hop Scratch interrupts her to say that Ivypool protected her, only to be scolded by Claw Stretch. Later, after the wildcat elders return to camp with Ivypool and Icewing, Hop Scratch follows Claw Stretch to meet them. Claw Stretch says that she will accompany them to find Tumble Leap, Stalk Purr, and their newborn kits, and that her kin will care for Hop Scratch. Hop Scratch is excited to have new kits around. When Claw Stretch meets Tumble Leap and Stalk Purr, she tells them that Hop Scratch will be delighted to have other kits to play with.
