Chapter description

Starlingpaw watches Tawnypelt as he changes the moss. Fidgetflake had gone to share prey, leaving him alone with the unfamiliar cat. Tawnypelt lays there, muttering under her breath; Starlingpaw worries he cannot keep her safe and is being told a prophecy. She suddenly yowls, warning him to beware the two-faced cat with a paw in each world. Starlingpaw races towards her, staring at her erratic movements. She opens her eyes, and looks directly at Starlingpaw, telling him that he is the only one who could help her. Tawnypelt falls asleep again, leaving him wondering about the meaning of her outburst.
As Fidgetflake enters the medicine den, Starlingpaw contemplates telling him about Tawnypelt's message. However, he decides against it, and leaves. Starlingpaw pads across SkyClan's camp and walks towards Needleclaw, his mother, and Rootspring, her littermate, who are curled next to each other. He considers confiding in his mother about the omen, but is overwhelmed by guilt. Remembering Kitescratch, he decides against telling them about Tawnypelt, believing keeping her message secret and discovering its meaning is his chance to redeem himself for his father's death.
