Claw is a tom.^[1]

In Graystripe's Vow, Claw was a former leader of BloodClan, earning the role after other cats in the wake of Scourge's death. Gremlin recalls how Fury, a member of the Twolegplace Clan, and Claw go in search of food. However, he is killed in the ordeal and Fury reports he had been killed by a dog. Gremlin remembers how the tabby she-cat took advantage of the tom's death and becomes BloodClan's new leader, despite blood on her paws.
