Silverstream is a loving, proud, resolute, and stubborn warrior of RiverClan.[1]
She is a warrior loved by her Clanmates in RiverClan, admired for her feisty, headstrong, and impulsive nature that was contained with a gentleness akin to her mother's.[2] As a Clan leader's daughter, more often than not she shows herself to be obstinate, and somewhat bratty as she believes she is able to get away with things other warriors cannot.[3][4] Despite this though, she was still entirely loyal to RiverClan.[2] That was, until she saved a drowning ThunderClan warrior, Graystripe, from the river. While acting on instinct,[5] and not with any form of romantic intention, she quickly finds herself charmed by the tom. However, this charm does not come easy and she finds herself at odds with following the warrior code and retaining her loyalty to RiverClan,[2] but love became her guiding emotion and she saw no fault in that.[4]
As her relationship continues, Silverstream becomes different in the eyes of the cats that are closest to her. They find her distant, some even owing this to the recent loss of her adoptive younger brother, Whiteclaw.[6] But, the truth is she was simply meeting with Graystripe by Sunningrocks when she could and despite being found out by her father,[7] and Leopardfur, she continued.[8] Silverstream, with her loving nature guiding her makes her resolute as she begins to question the warrior code and boundaries between following her own future.[7][8]

Relationships

Crookedstar and Silverstream were close after the deaths of her mother and sisters.

Silverstream is Crookedstar's only surviving daughter with Willowbreeze, born alongside her sisters, Willowkit and Minnowkit. However, Crookedstar initially distances himself from her out of grief and anger at himself for making a promise to Mapleshade countless moons before his daughter's birth.[9] The tom, after arguing with his brother, Oakheart, finally connects with his daughter as she witnesses the fight.[10]
As she grows up, she remains close with Crookedstar, but sometimes grows sick of his hovering. When he confronts her for meeting up with Graystripe, the ThunderClan warrior, she confides that she had hidden it from him as she had expected a poor reaction. She recognizes that his concern comes his love of her, but she wishes he could respect her desire to be her own cat and make her own future for herself.[7] When confronted about her forbidden relationship with Graystripe by Leopardfur, the latter questions her father's reaction to it and Silverstream shows little fear.[8] Silverstream shows extreme concern for her father's sharp decline in his health. She is shown to worry enough to disturb her own sleep and remain close to camp in case she is needed. However, in that particular instance her worry is eased when Crookedstar asks to see his daughter after his fever breaks and he seems less sick.[11]
Upon her death, even Crookedstar barely reacts to her having taken a mate from ThunderClan. Crookedstar is simply distraught by the loss of his daughter, and vows that ThunderClan would have to fight him themselves to separate his grandkits from their rightful Clan.[12]

Silverstream is adopted by Sunfish after the passing of her mother, Willowbreeze, and sisters, Willowkit and Minnowkit.[9] She is shown to be close with her adoptive mother and adoptive siblings as a young warrior, remaining by their sides when the former is gravely injured by ThunderClan cats.[13] After Sunfish's passing, Silverstream remains close to her adoptive siblings, particularly Vixenleap and their younger brother, Whiteclaw.[14] Whiteclaw eventually develops a crush on Silverstream.[15] The she-cat shows some sadness in the passing of Whiteclaw, but when she mentions it to Leopardfur it comes across cold and empty.[16]

Silverstream: "Can't you drown yourself in your own territory?"
Graystripe: "Ah, but who would rescue me there?"

Silverstream and Graystripe first meet when she saves him from drowning in the river. She drags him from the icy water and berates him for being in RiverClan territory, to which he responds to with humor. The she-cat finds him funny, explaining that instinct is what drove her to save him and soon departs. She notes that her father would kill her for saving a ThunderClan cat.[5] Soon, the pair begin to meet up in secret, where she greets Graystripe by winding around him.[17]

She uses her kinship with Crookedstar to ensure she and Graystripe can meet up without being found by RiverClan patrols.[3] After moons of meeting in secret, Silverstream announces to the tom she is expecting his kits. The pair are overjoyed at the prospect of becoming parents, despite them breaking the warrior code.[18] However, she dies while kitting the litter at Sunningrocks, with something during the process going badly resulting in her bleeding out. As she passes, Silverstream reaffirms her love of Graystripe and asks him to look after their kits.[19] Graystripe leaves with his kits for RiverClan, unable to part with the offspring that binds him to Silverstream.[20][21]
The death of the she-cat haunts the ThunderClan warrior during childbirth.[22] When Graystripe is captured by Twolegs and despairs of ever returning to the Clans, Silverstream comes to cheer him up in a dream.[23] She then encourages him to try to find ThunderClan with Millie.[24] The tom remembers the loss of his first mate during Millie's birth, asking that the life of his loved one be prioritized over their newborns in case of complications.[25] He feels very anxious again for the same reasons when Millie falls sick.[26] Worried about Millie joining StarClan and Graystripe getting his heart broken again, Silverstream wonders what to do.[27] When Jaypaw shares this information with Graystripe, he replies that he recognizes Silverstream for her caring side.[28] The she-cat will proclaim during the Great Battle against the Dark Forest that she is waiting for Graystripe at StarClan.[29] Graystripe will continue to mourn and miss Silverstream for the rest of his life.[30][31]

The two initially meet when she saves Graystripe from drowning, but Silverstream pays the ginger tom little attention.[5] The RiverClan she-cat confides RiverClan secrets to him when he attempts to intervene into her relationship with Graystripe. She explains that Twolegs are poisoning the fish and that her Clan is starving as a result. The she-cat tells him that she would not stop seeing his friend, querying how their love could do any harm.[4]
She inadvertently aides in his crusade to discover the truth of Redtail's death and Tigerclaw's treacherous nature. Silverstream manages to convince her Clanmate, Mistyfoot,[32] to speak with the tom and later also brings Graypool to speak with him.[33]
