«Every sacrifice I make is for the good of my Clan—and for the other Clans around the lake. Even if that means sacrificing myself.»

Sharp, durable, and intelligent, Ivypool's dedication to her Clan eventually led to her deputyship under Squirrelstar.

As a young cat, though Ivypaw is shy, anxious and lacks self-confidence, she still displays goodwill and loyalty.[1][2] Despite her deep love for her littermate, Dovepaw, she takes it very badly when she does not always receive the same treatment or perform the same tasks as her.[3][4][5][6][7] She also fears that Dovewing will drift away from her, and that she will lose importance in her eyes.[8] Her bitterness and jealousy allows her to easily fall under Hawkfrost's manipulation; she fells resentful under her sister's shadow, disappointed that she could not be a part of the Three.[9][10][11][12] Ivypool is also quite savage and violent, as a result of her long training in the Dark Forest.[13] But despite it all, she is fiercely loyal to her Clanmates.[14][15]
The she-cat is sharp, durable, observant, and intelligent.[16] She is also rather independent, preferring to work alone and focus on her own duties quietly. Despite the attention she seeks, Ivypool is not selfish and does not want to burden other cats with her troubles.[17] Ivypool can be snappy and is not afraid to call other felines out for their actions.[18][19][20]

Relationships

Hawkfrost

This section needs expansion. You can help the Warriors Wiki by adding more info.

"The first time I met Hawkfrost, it wasn't in the Place of No Stars; it was in a field with flowers and sunshine and stuff like that. He... He flattered me; he seemed interested in what I could do, not what my sister could do. No cat has ever treated me like that in this Clan. I'm just your shadow here."
―Ivypaw to Dovepaw about Hawkfrost Night Whispers, page 271
At first, Hawkfrost made Ivypool feel flattered and heard,[source?] which was something she had never experienced before in ThunderClan, as the attention was always solely on her sister, Dovewing.[21] She trusted him, even if he caused her pain and pushed her through harsh challenges.[22] However, she soon realized that Hawkfrost had been manipulating her and many others to get her to join the dark forest, realizing he did not truly care for her.[23] Ivypool turned her back on Hawkfrost in the final battle, willing to kill him for the good of her Clan.[24]

Dovewing

"Of course I won't give up on you. I was angry about you leaving ThunderClan. Maybe I'm still angry. But I'll always be your sister. I'll always believe in you."
―Ivypool to Dovewing after she leaves ThunderClan The Ultimate Guide: Updated and Expanded Edition, page 232
Dovewing is Ivypool's sister. As kits and then newly turned apprentices, they are inseparable: more than anything, they want to learn together and never be separated.[25][1][26] Unfortunately, fate decides otherwise after Dovepaw learns that she is part of the Prophecy of Three and that her overdeveloped senses are actually a power: while Dovepaw desperately wants to integrate her littermate into her destiny,[27] Ivypaw quickly becomes very frustrated and jealous whenever her sister is treated differently from her, or whenever she feels she is trying to attract attention or show off.[2][3] Ivypaw's resentment and bitterness towards Dovepaw increase,[4][5][6] despite the second's efforts to be present and loving towards her littermate.[8] Although Ivypaw continues to show solidarity with Dovepaw and they may still be close,[28][29][30] her envy, pain, and anger at what she considers to be incomprehensible special treatment eventually take over, especially when she realizes that Dovepaw is hiding things from her. The concerned is aware of the situation and tries to reassure her sister, without success.[31][32][7][33] Ultimately, Ivypaw's discomfort with comparisons and criticisms from their Clanmates will lead her to associate with Hawkfrost's.[9][10] The relationship between the two sisters deteriorates: after becoming cold and distant with Dovepaw, Ivypaw loses her temper when confronting her about the situation. Realizing her littermate's distress but forbidden from revealing the existence of the Prophecy, Dovepaw painfully resigns herself to losing her closeness with Ivypaw, while clinging to the hope that she will one day understand everything.[34] Despite their distance,[35] they continue to care for each other: Ivypaw wants to protect Dovepaw in the heart of the fighting,[36] Dovepaw resents Jayfeather and Lionblaze for not taking seriously the deterioration of her bond with her sister.[37]
When Dovepaw learns that Ivypaw is training in the Dark Forest, she confronts her, annoyed by her littermate's nonchalance and stupidity, leading to an argument.[11] Terrified and helpless in the face of the danger Ivypaw is in,[38][39] Dovepaw watches inexorably as her sister drifts further and further away from her.[40][41][42][43] Meanwhile, Dovepaw is jealous and worried that Ivypaw also has Tigerheart's attention,[44][45] with whom she herself is becoming romantically close; when, during another confrontation, Ivypaw reveals to her sister that Tigerheart is training with her in the Place of No Stars, Dovepaw flies into a violent rage, refusing to believe it. This does not prevent her from being vehemently indignant at Jayfeather and Lionblaze's refusal to help Ivypaw, and then when she learns that they want to make her a spy by putting her in even more danger.[12] After yet another argument during which the two sisters question their respective loyalties, Ivypaw allows herself to be kidnapped by ShadowClan so that Dovepaw's affair with Tigerheart will not be discovered.[46] When Ivypaw finally realizes she has been manipulated by the Dark Forest, Dovepaw encourages her to talk to Jayfeather and Lionblaze, defending her sister against the two toms' barbs. She can finally confess that she is one of the Three, which Ivypaw takes badly: she blames Dovepaw for falling into Hawkfrost's trap, confiding her jealousy and feelings of inferiority. Dovepaw retorts that her wish has been granted and that she can now play a special role too; at the end of this conversation, Ivypaw agrees to spy on the Place of No Stars.[21] The two she-cats grow closer again, although Ivypaw's muteness and exhaustion greatly worry Dovepaw, who tries to support her as best he can.[14][47][48] Nevertheless, a certain tension remains between the two sisters: although Dovepaw—now Dovewing—resents the pressure Jayfeather and Lionblaze put on Ivypaw[49] —now Ivypool—and tries to watch over her littermate,[50] she is also jealous that Ivypool feels superior to her by spying on the Dark Forest.[17] As for Ivypool, despite trying to be understanding, she is easily irritated by Dovewing's moods and worries, whether it be her desire to be considered a "normal" warrior[51] or the diminishing of her senses.[52][53] Despite this, Dovewing continues to defend her sister against all odds,[54] to care for her[55][56][57] and to tread cautiously so as not to upset her.[58][59] On the eve of the Great Battle and afterwards, Ivypool and Dovewing become very close again and support each other on a daily basis.[60][61][62][63][64] Dovewing wishes that Ivypool would be the fourth cat of the Prophecy, believing that she deserves it.[65][66]
After the defeat of the Place of No Stars, Dovewing is outraged by the way the former trainees are perceived by their Clanmates: she vehemently defends them, especially Ivypool who risked so much for the survival of the Clans.[67][68][69][70][71] While their relationship seems to have returned to normal,[72][73][74][75] it take a new turn when Tigerheart is temporarily staying with ThunderClan. Ivypool strongly disapproves of them getting closer again:[76][77] she does not hesitate to reproach Dovewing for it, which greatly irritates the concerned,[78] and tries to prevent the two warriors from seeing each other.[79] Despite her fury upon learning that Dovewing continues to see Tigerheart in secret after he joined the pine forest,[80][81] Ivypool is convinced that her sister will not leave ThunderClan.[82] When Ivypool learns that Tigerheart let Dovewing leave the lake territories without following her, she becomes furious with the tomcat.[83] Determined to find her littermate, Ivypool refuses to let her sister to be branded a traitor, and no one dares accuse Dovewing in her presence.[84][85] Meanwhile, seeing Ivypool again is one of the reasons Dovewing is so eager to rejoin the Clans.[86] Initially delighted to be reunited with her sister, whom she missed despite her feeling of betrayal,[87] Ivypool bristles upon learning that Dovewing is going to live in ShadowClan with Tigerheart—now Tigerstar.[88] Later, Dovewing visits Ivypool; seeing her hesitation, she asks her bluntly if she does not intend to greet her and understand her choice. Ivypool eventually joins her for an affectionate chat with her sister; however, she does not know how to defend Dovewing's decision while also teaching loyalty to her own kittens.[89] Her dynamic with Dovewing has left its mark, as Ivypool lashes out at Bristlefrost when she fears that she will choose Rootspring over ThunderClan.[20] While Bristlefrost is still in the Dark Forest while Shadowsight has returned to the Moonpool, Dovewing defends the cause of Ivypool and her daughter against Tigerstar, so that the leader of ShadowClan agrees to send several cats to the aid of Bristlefrost and Rootspring.[90] After Bristlefrost's definitive disappearance, Ivypool struggles to accept Dovewing's support, as well as her own grief following the death of her son Rowankit.[91] Dovewing continues to support her, respecting her needs[92] and demonstrating courage and common sense throughout their quest, arousing Ivypool's admiration and gratitude.[93] Ivypool feels guilty for not having more sympathized with Dovewing's grief at losing Rowankit, and the two grieving mothers comfort each other.[94][95] Ivypool's heart overflows with affection for her sister, and she realizes that despite the Clan boundaries between them, she has never stopped caring for Dovewing.[96] Despite their mutual love, Dovewing does not appreciate that Ivypool, now the ThunderClan deputy, trying to soften her into influencing Tigerstar's decisions: she defends her mate and quickly becomes irritated with her littermate.[97]

Fernsong

Bristlefrost

Bristlefrost is Ivypool's daughter.[87] She deeply loves Bristlefrost and was deeply heartbroken by her death.[99] Ivypool grieves heavily and tries to look for her daughter in anything, pleading with Rootspring to try and summon Bristlefrost. Her mate, Fernsong helps calm her pain by reassuring her that Bristlefrost will live as long as the cats love her.[100] It takes a long time but Ivypool finally accepts Bristlefrost's death, seeing her spirit still wandering in the forest.[101] It especially breaks Ivypool's heart that her daughter had to die in the Dark Forest, a cruel place she knew all too well.[102]

Blossomfall

«As she reassured her Clanmate, Ivypool guessed that this was how Hawkfrost had won Blossomfall over: by giving her the chance to get as much attention as her sister, Briarlight. Just as he did with Dovewing and me. She felt sad that Blossomfall was so jealous of her sister for the amount of time her mother and her Clanmates spent with her. Briarlight had lost the use of her legs! But then, Ivypool thought, I don't suppose Dovewing's gift is always so much fun, either. Maybe we should both be grateful for what we have...»

Hollyleaf

Ivypool: "Our sins are not easily forgiven, not when the battle lost us so many cats. Hollyleaf only died because she saved me from Hawkfrost. Perhaps it should be me lying there instead."
Dovewing: "Never say that! Hollyleaf knew what she was doing. She died as a true warrior, don’t forget."

Rootspring

"Sharing her pain with another cat wouldn't take it away, but it would ease it a little."
―Ivypool thinking about Rootspring Ivypool's Heart, pages 181-182
Both Ivypool and Rootspring feel the pain of Bristlefrost's loss greatly—the former as a mother and the latter as a never-to-be mate.[99] The two of them grow closer together as they begin meeting in secret, finding solace and understanding within one another. While not angry at her, Fernsong wishes that Ivypool could trust him the way she trusts Rootspring.[103] Ivypool is happy when Rootspring volunteers to go on the journey to investigate Whistlepaw's vision.[102] She admires him, even if he shares some of the same odd antics as his father, Tree.[94] It hurts her to see Rootspring in so much pain, but it gives her comfort, too, to know that her daughter is loved so fiercely.[104]
Ivypool notices Rootspring's endearment towards the newborn wildcat kits.[105] She thinks he would make a good father; while it would admittedly hurt to see him with someone other than Bristlefrost, Ivypool knows that he deserves to move on and find happiness elsewhere.[96] Just as she promised herself, she supports him and his future, believing he will make the right choice for himself. They manage to make peace with Bristlefrost's loss, agreeing to stop their meetings upon their return to the lake.[101]

Tigerstar (AVoS)

Tigerheart: "My Clan needs me. I couldn't abandon them."
Ivypool: "But you could abandon Dovewing?"
Tigerheart: "I thought you didn't want us to be together."
Ivypool: "Do you think I'd prefer she was out there alone? I always knew you were trouble. You never cared about Dovewing. If you had, you'd never have let her leave."
Tigerheart: "I love her. I should have stopped her, but I couldn't."
Ivypool: "You're a coward. And a fox-heart. Dovewing deserved a better mate than you."

Jayfeather and Lionblaze

"You want her to spy? Don’t you think she’s in enough danger already? If Tigerstar found out she was spying, StarClan knows what he’d do to her. No! There’s no way you’re going to put Ivypaw through that. Not even if the whole Clan depends on it!"
―Dovepaw opposes Jayfeather and Lionblaze's idea of making Ivypaw a spy Night Whispers, chapter 16
As a young apprentice, Ivypaw is jealous of the attention Lionblaze and Jayfeather give Dovepaw, not understanding what is so special about her sister.[34] After discovering that she is training in the Dark Forest,[11] the two tomcats do not attempt to reason with her or convince her to give up her training there - much to the despair and annoyance of Dovepaw, horrified by the dangers that Ivypaw faces.[38][39] When they finally decide to act on the matter, it's primarily because they fear that Ivypaw's daily injuries will eventually betray their secret. Faced with an increasingly outraged and angry Dovepaw, Jayfeather and Lionblaze suggest making her littermate a spy within the Place of No Stars.[12] After Ivypaw realizes she's been manipulated by the Dark Forest, the two tomcats insist she bring them information about their enemies, despite the apprentice's obvious fear. Jayfeather points out that she has no choice but to return anyway when she falls asleep, and that if she was ready to betray ThunderClan, she could certainly do the same to the Place of No Stars.[21]
Dovepaw, now Dovewing, blames Jayfeather and Lionblaze for putting Ivypaw, now Ivypool, in such danger. While Lionblaze seems to feel some guilt about it,[49] he is mostly frustrated that Ivypool isn't sharing as much information about the Dark Forest as she should.[15][54][55]
