Chiveclaw is a dark brown tom with yellow eyes.^[2]

In Goosefeather's Curse, Chiveclaw is the medicine cat of WindClan under Heatherstar's leadership in the forest territories. He defends Goosepaw when Echosnout mutters that she does not think he should be there due to his young age. Chiveclaw mews that if Cloudberry believes it is time for him to start his training, they should not argue with her. Later, Chiveclaw congratulates Goosefeather on receiving his full name, and welcomes him to the life of a medicine cat. At a Gathering, he mews to Cloudberry that she will have her paws full with all of ThunderClan's new kits.

He is mistakenly shown as mentor to a younger Hawkpaw,^[2]^[3] despite Hawkheart becoming medicine cat after he had already been a warrior.^[4]
